Element
An element is a substance made up of only one type of atom and cannot be split into anything simpler.

The symbol of an element
Each element has a name and a symbol. For example, the symbol for carbon is C, and that of aluminium is Al.
The symbols of elements are represented with one or two letters.
If the symbol of an element is represented with only one letter, the letter will be written in uppercase. If represented with two letters, the first letter will be written in uppercase and the second in lowercase.
Check the periodic table for the names and symbols of elements.
Use the library or internet to find out why the symbol for potassium is K and that of sodium is Na.
